Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy comedy Udta Teer closed its first week in theatres at ₹30.93 crore, according to Sacnilk. The total is built less on a single opening-day spike than on a weekend that grew and a Thursday that stayed flat.
A week that climbed, then held
The film opened on Friday, October 23, with ₹4.10 crore. Saturday jumped about 76% to ₹7.25 crore, and Sunday was the best single day of the opening frame at ₹8.20 crore. Thursday collected ₹2.28 crore, with no dip from the previous day, bringing the seven-day total to ₹30.93 crore.

The upward arc and the stable Thursday are significant because the film is not playing alone. It launched a week after Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, and it continues to share screens with Nayyi Navelli and Prahaar. In that kind of theatrical crowd, a mid-size release has to prove it can hold beyond the opening crowd.
Why the hold matters more than the opening
For a film of this scale, the more useful number than the opening day is the post-weekend drop. Udta Teer has avoided the sharp Monday-to-Thursday decline that signals interest has burnt out. That sets up a meaningful second weekend, where word of mouth can bring in audiences who were waiting to see whether the film would last. The 76% Saturday bump is a sign that the film reached beyond its first-day base, and that wider play often shows up in weekday numbers.
Distributors often treat a big-ticket sequel as a reason to stay away. Udta Teer took the opposite route, coming in just behind the action giant and offering a lighter spy comedy instead of trying to match scale. That counter-programming choice looks, so far, like a workable one.
The story behind the title
The plot follows Ayushmann as a Pakistani spy who loses his memory in a blast and becomes convinced he is an Indian Counter-Terrorism Squad officer. That mistaken identity lands him inside a larger cross-border espionage operation, balancing action with comic chaos. The film also stars Sara Ali Khan, Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover and the late Mukul Dev.
Ayushmann also spoke about producer Guneet Monga, saying the actor and producer share an interest in “clutter-breaking, unique cinema.” He added that Monga took his first audition, and that their long association made the collaboration feel like a full circle.
What to watch in week two
The real test is the Friday-to-Sunday hold. If Udta Teer can stay flat again and grow through the second weekend, it converts a steady start into a longer theatrical run. If it slips, the first-week number will still count as a solid result in a competitive release window.
