Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan returned to cinemas on Friday with Udta Teer, a quirky spy comedy that has earned largely positive reviews but is still waiting for that goodwill to show up at the ticket window. Early estimates put Day 1 at ₹2.58 crore net in India by 7:45 PM, with gross collections at about ₹3.04 crore.
The early figures come from Sacnilk’s live updates and cover 4,902 shows. They are not the final tally—night shows can still lift the total—but they give the first clear picture of how the film is being received commercially.
Day 1, hour by hour
Occupancy has been soft, with a visible bump in the afternoon:
- Morning shows: 5.08%
- Afternoon shows: 14.46%
- Evening shows: 13.77%
The afternoon jump indicates that some curiosity and word of mouth did kick in after the first shows. The slight dip in the evening suggests Udta Teer is still competing for walk-in audiences on a working day.
The comparison that matters
The obvious benchmark is Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, the previous Ayushmann Khurrana–Sara Ali Khan collaboration. That film opened at ₹4 crore net and an estimated ₹4.80 crore gross. Udta Teer has not matched that pace so far.
Why does that matter? A returning star pairing carries a built-in audience expectation. The first-day figure tells producers whether the cast alone pulled people in, or whether the film will have to depend on reviews and weekend momentum to build its run.
What else we know
Directed by Aakash Kaushik and jointly produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, Udta Teer follows a Pakistani spy who lands in India, loses his memory, and starts believing he is an Indian spy. Alongside Khurrana and Ali Khan, the cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar and Supriya Pilgaonkar.
Trade reports place the film’s budget between ₹50 crore and ₹65 crore. On the streaming side, the film’s poster suggests Netflix has acquired post-theatrical rights, though an official premiere date has not been announced.
For fans, the first update is a reminder that good reviews do not automatically mean a flying start. The better test is whether Udta Teer can convert its positive response into stronger Saturday and Sunday numbers.
