Sunny Deol’s Suryaa first look out; release set for Nov 20

Sunny Deol's crime-thriller Suryaa unveils its first look and locks a November 20, 2026 theatrical release, directed by M. Padmakumar.

Sunny Deol's Suryaa first look out; Nov 20 release

Sunny Deol’s next film has a name, a first look and a release date. The makers of Suryaa announced on Monday that the crime-thriller will arrive in cinemas on 20 November 2026.

The poster shows Sunny with a cigarette and his head bent low. It is a quieter, more brooding image than fans of his Gadar 2 energy might expect, and it immediately tells you the film is operating in a different register.

What the announcement tells us

The poster caption reads, “Torn between Past and Present, He uncovers the TRUTH!” A press release adds that the story follows a man pulled into a web of “unanswered questions and buried truths.” What begins as an investigation leads him into something far more complex than he expected.

Producer Kamal Mukut shared that he had signed Sunny for two films: Gadar 2 and Suryaa. After the success of Gadar 2, work on Suryaa began. He described the new film as showing Sunny in “a never-before-seen avatar,” with the character’s journey “interestingly woven across three phases of his life.”

Why this pairing stands out

There is more here than a star vehicle. Here is what makes Suryaa worth tracking:

  • A darker Sunny Deol: the crime-thriller setup and the poster’s downbeat mood suggest a more interior role than his usual action-hero turn.
  • A Malayalam thriller director: M. Padmakumar has directed Joseph (2018), Kanal (2015) and the recent Uyir. That background in moody, investigative storytelling could shape the film’s pacing.
  • A story that moves across time: the promise of two eras and three life phases gives the film a built-in hook for the trailer and for viewers who like layered crime stories.

Padmakumar’s Malayalam films have leaned on procedural tension and character study. If he brings that grammar to a Hindi crime-thriller built around a familiar star, Suryaa could feel more controlled than the high-decibel action Sunny is known for. That contrast is exactly what makes the announcement interesting.

Suryaa is produced by MM Moviez, with Deepak Mukut, Hemmant Mukut, Lokesh Mukut and Kamal Mukut as producers.

What fans can do now

For fans who grew up on Sunny Deol’s dialogue-baazi and larger-than-life action, this is a chance to see him in a mode that depends on mystery and confrontation rather than pure force. The first look suggests a worn-down man carrying some burden — a classic crime-drama opening image that leaves plenty of room for the story to twist.

The first-look poster is the main visual to study for now. If the film follows the usual pattern, a trailer and a fuller cast announcement should arrive closer to the release. For now, 20 November 2026 is the date to mark.
