Ramayana gets PG-13, runs 3h 15m; English cut may be 2h 45m

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend gets a US PG-13 for violence and graphic blood, plus an IMAX-listed 3h 15m runtime ahead of its November 5 worldwide release.

Ramayana gets PG-13; IMAX lists 3h 15m runtime

Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part epic has just given global audiences a clearer sense of its scale. The US Motion Picture Association has rated Ramayana: Rise of a Legend PG-13, while IMAX lists the film at 3 hours and 15 minutes. The international trailer arrives in Bengaluru on October 15 as Sony Pictures begins its worldwide push.

What the PG-13 rating means

The MPA rating reflects intense action, violence and some graphic blood imagery. For Indian viewers, that is broadly comparable to a U/A certificate: children under 13 can still attend with parental guidance, but families should know the battles and confrontations are not softened.

A PG-13 is an early content signal, not a verdict. It suggests the epic’s imagery is ambitious but still positioned for a wide global audience rather than an adults-only audience. The classification also gives audiences outside India a practical reference point just as the international campaign begins.

The runtime speaks to the scale

IMAX’s listing puts the first part at 3 hours and 15 minutes. Trade sources say the English-language version could be shorter, at around 2 hours and 45 minutes, so the final duration may vary by market. The makers have not confirmed the number.

If the longer cut holds, it becomes Ranbir Kapoor’s second film to cross three hours after Animal, which ran 3 hours and 21 minutes. For an epic told in two parts, a long first chapter is both a statement of ambition and a test of audience stamina.

What the global rollout includes

  • Trailer: The second trailer is set to be unveiled in Bengaluru on October 15.
  • Release: Part one opens worldwide on November 5, 2026; part two is planned for Diwali 2027.
  • Languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with IMAX screenings planned.
  • Distribution: Sony Pictures handles international markets outside India; Dharma Productions handles the Hindi-speaking market.

Why it matters for fans

This is the moment the campaign changes from a domestic release to a global event. Character posters have already introduced Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, and now the rating and runtime give audiences a practical sense of what to book. Producer Namit Malhotra put the ambition plainly: “When we set out to make Ramayana, our dream was always to take one of India’s greatest stories to the world.”

The next detail to watch is the maker-confirmed runtime in each language version. Until then, fans planning IMAX or family outings should treat the 3-hour-15-minute listing as the working number, not the final word.
