Ramayana: Part One Sets JioHotstar Pay-Per-View Plan

After its November 5 theatrical run, the Nitesh Tiwari epic will be sold on JioHotstar as a pay-per-view title; price and dates are still to come.

Ramayana's pay-per-view plan after the big screen

Prime Focus Studios and JioHotstar have announced a pay-per-view partnership for Ramayana: Part One. After the film completes its exclusive theatrical run, Indian audiences will be able to buy it as an on-demand title on JioHotstar across supported devices.

The Nitesh Tiwari-directed epic opens worldwide on November 5, 2026, in IMAX 3D and in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and English.

What the deal changes for home viewing

Unlike a standard streaming drop, this agreement positions the film as a separate purchase. JioHotstar has not yet announced a pay-per-view price or an availability date, but says the title will be offered in the highest quality the service supports.

That matters because most high-profile films eventually land in a subscription catalogue. Here, Prime Focus Studios and JioHotstar are treating the epic as a premium event that viewers can buy after cinemas, rather than waiting for a library window.

Why the makers chose a pay-per-view route

Producer Namit Malhotra said the film was designed for the largest possible screen, especially IMAX 3D. But he added that cinema infrastructure cannot reach everyone who holds the epic close. “Ramayana belongs to every Indian,” Malhotra said, calling JioHotstar a natural partner for taking the film into living rooms after its theatrical run.

Nita M. Ambani, Chairperson of JioStar, framed the move as a way to carry the story’s cultural legacy forward. She said the platform’s ambition is to use technology to place the finest stories within reach of every Indian and introduce a new generation to the epic’s values of duty, love, courage and goodness.

The larger context

Pay-per-view has long been used for live events and international releases, but it remains a selective tool for Hindi films. Announcing the window before the theatrical release lets the team position the film as a continuing event while keeping pricing flexible. The absence of a confirmed PPV date also leaves room to extend the theatrical run if demand holds.

That structure fits a two-part adaptation designed for scale: an IMAX 3D debut for the cinema-first audience, followed by a paid digital option for viewers who cannot reach premium screens.

What fans can do now

  • Book the cinema experience first: the film opens November 5, 2026, with IMAX 3D shows.
  • Check language availability before booking: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and English.
  • Wait for JioHotstar to confirm the pay-per-view price and post-theatrical date.

The film is planned as a two-part live-action adaptation, with music by Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman and a cast led by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Sunny Deol. For now, the big-screen run remains the first window; the JioHotstar purchase option follows it.
