The uncut original version of Curry Barker’s Hollywood horror Obsession is now streaming on the Peacock Hub inside JioHotstar, in both English and Hindi. The release has sparked conversation in India, and one behind-the-scenes detail is making the film’s scariest moment even harder to shake off.
Bollywood voices carry the fear in Hindi
For Hindi cinema fans, the dub is a major part of the draw. Varun Dhawan voices Bear, while Kriti Sanon voices Nikki, the character at the centre of the film’s most talked-about scene.
Hearing familiar stars carry the fear in Hindi gives the film a different texture. It is also a reminder that an OTT premiere can become a local event when the voice cast speaks the audience’s language.
One take, and no second guessing
Director Curry Barker opened up about the late-night bedroom scene where Nikki stands in the corner and breaks down. In a recent interview, he recalled the preparation and the moment Inde Navarrette asked him to step back. “Don’t say a word. Just let me do it,” she told him, by his account.
What happened next was the real surprise. “She literally did it in one take,” Barker said. He added that the moment was part of reshoots, shot almost seven months after the main schedule. By then, Navarrette had already played the full film and knew exactly what the scene needed.
Barker said he called cut and sent her back to her green room because the first attempt had already done the job. For horror fans, that kind of story matters: the dread in the frame was a performance, not a pile-up of takes.
