Nayyi Navelli tops Prahaar with Rs 0.72 cr early

Diwali season has brought a real face-off to the Hindi screen. Yami Gautam’s horror comedy Nayyi Navelli and Rajkummar Rao’s courtroom drama Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam opened on October 16, and the early numbers have given the horror comedy the cleaner start.

Early occupancy and collections

According to Sacnilk, Nayyi Navelli recorded a morning occupancy of 6.15% while Prahaar stood at 5.69%. That small gap widened in rupees. By 1 pm, the Yami Gautam film had collected Rs 0.72 crore, against Rs 0.45 crore for Rajkummar Rao’s film.

  • Nayyi Navelli: 6.15% morning occupancy, Rs 0.72 crore by 1 pm
  • Prahaar: 5.69% morning occupancy, Rs 0.45 crore by 1 pm
  • Opening-day projection: Rs 2.5-3.5 crore versus Rs 1.5-2 crore

Two very different bets

Nayyi Navelli is Tamil filmmaker Balaji Mohan’s Hindi directorial debut, a horror comedy that also features Adinath Kothare, Mita Vashisht, Sonal Jha and Sunita Rajwar. Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, directed by Avinash Arun, follows public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam’s role in the legal battles around the 1993 Bombay bombings and the 2008 Mumbai attacks. It also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Lalit Prabhakar, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher.

The clash is notable because neither film is a conventional festive entertainer. One offers fear and laughs; the other leans into courtroom gravity. Yet both are drawing attention at a time when audiences are returning to theatres for the holiday window.

What the early lead means

Trade analyst Sumit Kadel told Filmibeat that Nayyi Navelli is expected to finish day one between Rs 2.5 crore and Rs 3.5 crore, while Prahaar is projected to earn Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2 crore. If that holds, the horror comedy will do nearly double the business of the legal drama on day one.

For fans, the morning trend is a useful signal, not a final verdict. The evening and night shows will either stretch that lead or let the courtroom drama close the gap.

What to watch tonight

A legal drama with a real-life hook can build through word of mouth. Ujjwal Nikam’s name carries weight, and cities with a strong interest in the cases may show up later in the day. If Prahaar improves in the evening, this clash could look very different by midnight. If not, Nayyi Navelli will own day one.
