Bollywood’s festive window has a split decision on its hands. Two contrasting Hindi releases went head-to-head at the box office, and after the opening Friday, the Saturday predictions give Yami Gautam’s horror-comedy a clear early edge.
The Saturday prediction
Nayyi Navelli opened with Rs 3.25 crore and is expected to pick up pace on day two. Trade estimates put its Saturday number at around Rs 4 crore, which would take the film’s two-day total close to Rs 7 crore.
Rajkummar Rao’s Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam began lower, with Rs 2.35 crore on day one. The courtroom drama is projected to collect Rs 3 to 3.5 crore on the first Saturday, leaving it near Rs 5 crore after two days.
- Nayyi Navelli: Rs 3.25 crore on day one, roughly Rs 4 crore predicted on day two, around Rs 7 crore in two days.
- Prahaar: Rs 2.35 crore on day one, Rs 3-3.5 crore predicted on day two, around Rs 5 crore in two days.
Two moods, one festive chase
The split is also a genre experiment. Nayyi Navelli marks Tamil filmmaker Balaji Mohan’s Bollywood directorial debut and brings Yami Gautam into horror-comedy with Adinath Kothare, Mita Vashisht, Sonal Jha and Sunita Rajwar in key roles. It is positioned as the lighter option for families and younger viewers during the festive window.
Prahaar, directed by Avinash Arun, is an intense legal drama inspired by public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam’s association with major cases, including those linked to the 1993 Bombay bombings and the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Wamiqa Gabbi, Lalit Prabhakar, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher feature in the cast.
Trade buzz around Jailer 2 is adding another layer of pressure. For now, the predictions suggest Nayyi Navelli will stay ahead, but the weekend has not closed.
What to watch next
Sunday holds and actual Saturday figures will be the real test. If Prahaar can stabilise or improve, the gap may narrow; if Nayyi Navelli’s family audience turns out in bigger numbers, the lead could widen. For fans, it is a clean choice between two very different versions of the Hindi mainstream.
