Nayyi Navelli, the horror comedy led by Yami Gautam Dhar, has reached cinemas with a censor certificate and a visible list of changes. Bollywood Hungama reports that the CBFC cleared the film on October 12 with a U/A 16+ certificate, four days before its Friday, October 16 release.
What the CBFC asked for
The board did not block the release, but it did leave its mark. According to the report, the Examining Committee asked the makers to rework the opening disclaimer so it states the film is a work of fiction and that the makers follow the rules.
- 57 seconds of dialogue removed: Yami Gautam Dhar’s character Mohini had dialogue “suitably modified, wherever it occurred.”
- Climax visual and background music: Both were asked to be suitably modified.
- Masala-eating visuals: A static was added wherever these shots occur.
- Anti-drug disclaimer: The makers were directed to add it at the beginning of the film.
Once the changes were made, the film was passed on October 12. The certificate lists the length as 138.00 minutes, which is 2 hours and 18 minutes.
Why this matters
These changes are part of the final version fans will see on Friday. The cuts remove less than a minute from Yami’s performance, but the certificate’s 16+ rating tells audiences the horror comedy is not a children’s film. It can be watched by viewers 16 and above, with adult guidance framing for younger audiences.
The censor process matters because it can alter pacing, dialogue rhythm and the way a scene lands without changing the story. A 57-second dialogue trim and a modified climax beat may be small, but for a film built on horror-comedy timing, minor adjustments are noticed by returning fans.
The version hitting cinemas
Nayyi Navelli stars Yami Gautam Dhar alongside Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar and others. The film arrives just after Yami’s National Award recognition for Article 370, which gives the release extra attention.
For viewers, the practical step is simple: this is the certified, 2-hour-18-minute version that will play from October 16. The censor changes are already in the print, so the opening-day experience is the only version to judge.
