Nana Patekar, 3-time National Award winner, dies

Nana Patekar has died after being found unresponsive at his Goa home, Filmfare reports. His completed scenes make Shakti Shalini his last film.

His last film: Shakti Shalini

Nana Patekar, the three-time National Award-winning actor, has died. Filmfare reports that he was found unresponsive at his Goa residence on 8 October 2026 and that doctors tried for almost 45 minutes to revive him, but he did not respond.

A screen presence built over decades

Patekar made his debut in Gaman in 1978 and built a career on intensity and range. His filmography includes Parinda, Krantiveer and Welcome, each showing a different register. The key markers from the report:

  • Three National Awards across his career
  • Known for versatility and a strong work ethic
  • Final scenes for Shakti Shalini were already wrapped

For an actor known for not wasting a frame, the numbers tell only part of the story. Three National Awards point to peer recognition; the real legacy is the way his characters stayed with audiences long after the credits.

Shakti Shalini: the final appearance

The film is the latest title in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, which has delivered Stree (2018), Bhediya (2022), Stree 2 (2024) and Thamma (2025). Aditya Sarpotdar directs from a screenplay by Durgesh Singh, with Aneet Padda leading the cast and Vishal Jethwa, Vineet Kumar Singh and Seema Biswas in the ensemble.

The story sets Shakti, an ordinary girl turned protector, against Shalini, a vengeful spirit hunting men after her brutal murder. Patekar’s scenes are complete, so the film will be his final big-screen bow.

Why this farewell lands harder

For Hindi film fans, Patekar represented screen authority that could turn from coiled and dangerous to dry and comic within a single film. That range is why Shakti Shalini will be watched as a farewell as much as the next Maddock entry. The completed scenes also mean the film is not an unfinished project; it is a record of a last performance.

Whenever Shakti Shalini opens, it will carry two jobs: extend a successful horror-comedy universe and close the book on one of Hindi cinema’s most distinct performers. The Maddock franchise knows how to blend folk horror with star power; this time, the star power comes with a goodbye.

Filmfare also notes reports of Patekar appearing with his Welcome co-star Akshay Kumar after their Gwalior schedule wrapped. A release date for Shakti Shalini has not been announced in the report. For fans planning a rewatch, Gaman, Parinda and Krantiveer are natural places to start.
