Three decades after it first filled cinema halls, Mohra is getting a big-screen do-over. Trimurti Films has confirmed that the 1994 action thriller will return in a 4K remastered version on November 6, 2026, landing in the Diwali period.
The original, directed by Rajiv Rai and produced by Gulshan Rai, released on July 1, 1994. The new date puts the Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon-starrer into the same holiday corridor as Ramayana, which arrives a day earlier on November 5.
What the re-release brings back
The official teaser on Trimurti Films’ YouTube channel sets the pitch with the line: “everyone could be a pawn.” The story still turns on Vishal Agnihotri, a prisoner seeking justice for his wife’s murder, and journalist Roma Singh, who helps secure his release. As Inspector Amar Saxena investigates a chain of killings, the film moves through revenge, loyalty and betrayal.
The ensemble is a snapshot of the era: Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover, Raza Murad, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Poonam Jhawer and Kulbhushan Kharbanda all feature, with a long list of supporting players behind them.
Why fans should mark the date
Mohra was not just another action hit. It finished as the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 1994, behind only Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!. Its Viju Shah soundtrack reportedly sold more than eight million units, powered by Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast and Tip Tip Barsa Paani.
Those two tracks give the re-release a clear hook for older fans, and perhaps a first-time big-screen moment for younger viewers who know the songs only through streaming and reels.
- Original release: July 1, 1994
- 4K re-release: November 6, 2026, during Diwali
- 1994 box office: second-highest-grossing Indian film
- Soundtrack milestone: more than 8 million units sold
A Diwali window with real competition
A November 6 slot makes Mohra a counterweight in a crowded holiday frame. While Ramayana aims at the big-ticket fantasy audience, this restored classic can serve older viewers and families who want a familiar title. For exhibitors, a catalogue remaster is an efficient way to deepen the Diwali lineup.
If the 4K print draws a crowd, it may strengthen the case for more 90s action entertainers to get the same treatment. Until then, the move for fans is simple: watch the teaser, revisit the soundtrack, and book early for the opening weekend.
