Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal has given the Hindi Drishyam finale a public vote of confidence. In a video shared by Panorama Studios on Instagram on Monday, he praised Drishyam: The Conclusion, congratulated Ajay Devgn and the cast and crew, and said the team had closed the much-loved story impressively. The endorsement arrived as the film, released on October 2, is set to cross ₹500 crore at the global box office.
The original star signs off
“I have watched the film, and I am impressed by the way they have brought this much-loved journey to an end,” Mohanlal said in the video, addressing director Abhishek Pathak, Ajay Devgn and the rest of the cast and crew. “So well done.”
That nod carries special weight. The Hindi series is adapted from the Malayalam Drishyam blockbuster that Mohanlal himself fronted, so his approval is a full-circle moment for the remake’s closing chapter.
A franchise built on one idea
The story has remained deceptively simple: Vijay Salgaonkar, a cable operator, goes to extraordinary lengths to protect his family after his daughter becomes involved in a crime. That premise powered the 2015 Hindi remake, carried Drishyam 2 to blockbuster status in 2022, and now finds its conclusion with the same family still under pressure.
Because the Hindi films are remakes of a Malayalam hit, Mohanlal’s words work as a bridge between the two industries and their audiences. For Hindi film fans who never watched the original, it is a signal that the adaptation has honoured the source.
Why ₹500 crore matters
Drishyam: The Conclusion has moved quickly since its October 2 release and is now poised to pass the ₹500 crore global mark. For a Hindi thriller, that number underlines how strongly the Drishyam brand has travelled since the first Hindi film arrived in 2015 under Nishikant Kamat. Drishyam 2 was already one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2022, and the final instalment is closing the trilogy on a bigger commercial note.
Who is back for the final chapter
- Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar, still playing a cat-and-mouse game with the law
- Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav reprise their roles
- Jaideep Ahlawat joins the franchise as Rajveer Singh Tomar, a crime branch officer pursuing the case
- Abhishek Pathak directs and shares writing credit with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh
- Panorama Studios produces, with Star Studio18 presenting the film
What fans can do
With the story now complete, the theatre run is the last chance to experience the trilogy’s finale on the big screen. The makers are still encouraging audiences to book tickets, and the film’s current box office pace suggests the franchise will end as one of Hindi cinema’s most successful three-film properties.
