Mihir Ahuja finds new emotional space in Netflix’s Dilwali Diwali

Mihir Ahuja is moving from the high-stakes world of Operation Safed Sagar to a Diwali family story. Netflix’s upcoming film Dilwali Diwali, produced by Terribly Tiny Tales, stars Ahuja alongside Manoj Pahwa and Neelu Kohli in a story built around family relationships and festive emotions.

A deliberate shift in register

Speaking about the two projects, Ahuja said the new film gave him room to try something audiences have not seen from him before. “After being part of something as intense as Operation Safed Sagar, Dilwali Diwali gave me the chance to explore a completely different emotional space,” he said.

The actor explained that stories rooted in family, relationships and the festive spirit appeal to him because they are relatable. For this character, he was interested in discovering the nuances of the role and finding a side of his performance that viewers may not have seen before.

Why the festive setting works

A Diwali backdrop gives a family drama a built-in emotional hook: the season arrives with rituals, reunions, food and small household tensions that a wide Indian audience recognises. Ahuja said that familiarity is part of the film’s appeal. “What makes Dilwali Diwali exciting is the chance to connect with audiences through emotions and situations that feel familiar, yet still have their own surprises,” he said.

Festival-timed OTT titles also tend to be co-viewing bets, and this one arrives with a cast that signals performance-led storytelling. Manoj Pahwa and Neelu Kohli are known for their work across film and television, and their presence suggests the film will lean on character texture rather than scale.

What Ahuja hopes for

For Ahuja, each role is both a study of the character and of his own approach as an actor. He said he hopes people enjoy seeing him in this different space and connect with the character in their own way.

That personal note matters because a genre change can be a risk: an actor coming off an intense role has to carry viewers into a quieter emotional register. A family film set during Diwali gives him that chance, but the test will be whether audiences accept the new register once the film releases.

What we know so far

  • Film: Dilwali Diwali, a Netflix release.
  • Producer: Terribly Tiny Tales.
  • Cast: Mihir Ahuja, Manoj Pahwa and Neelu Kohli.
  • Story: Family relationships and the emotions around Diwali.
  • Release date: Not announced yet.

The makers have not specified a release date or character details. That leaves the next clear update as Netflix’s date announcement or first look, which will show how the film balances its festive setting with its family story.

For now, the takeaway is clear: after an intense military drama, Ahuja is using the Netflix title to widen his range, and the film’s relatable Diwali setting gives it a built-in connection with viewers.
