Jailer 2’s 4-week OTT plan risks Hindi multiplex release

Reports say Jailer 2's Hindi version could miss PVR INOX and Cinepolis screens after a proposed four-week theatrical-to-OTT window.

Jailer 2's 4-week OTT plan risks Hindi multiplex run

The report in brief

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 opened in cinemas worldwide on 15 October 2026. Before the first weekend, however, the bigger talking point for the trade is not the film itself but a reported disagreement over how soon it should move to streaming.

According to reports cited by Moneycontrol, the makers are considering a digital premiere roughly four weeks after the theatrical release. That timeline would put the film on a streaming platform around mid-November 2026. The likely destination is reported to be Amazon Prime Video, and a digital rights deal is said to have been closed for a substantial amount, though neither the platform nor the financial terms have been officially confirmed.

Where the Hindi release gets caught

The problem is specific to the Hindi-dubbed version. National multiplex chains such as PVR INOX and Cinepolis generally require an eight-week gap between theatrical and digital release for Hindi-language films. A four-week window would cut that norm in half.

That matters because multiplexes use the exclusive theatrical window to protect footfalls and screen commitments. A shorter window gives audiences an early reason to stay home, which weakens the cinema’s investment in shows and marketing.

  • Reported plan: OTT premiere four weeks after 15 October, around mid-November.
  • Chain norm: eight-week theatre-to-streaming gap for Hindi films.
  • Possible outcome: the Hindi version could miss PVR INOX and Cinepolis screens in North India and rely mainly on single screens.
  • Unchanged: the worldwide theatrical date and other markets are not affected.

The first Jailer was a commercial success, so the sequel’s Hindi version is valuable real estate for both exhibitors and streamers. The disagreement is ultimately about who gets the film’s first, most valuable weeks.

What fans should know before booking

Jailer 2 brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with Nelson Dilipkumar directing and Sun Pictures producing. Anirudh Ravichander returns as composer. The cast includes Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, SJ Suryah and Vidya Balan, while reported appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Vijay Sethupathi and Hrithik Roshan have not been officially confirmed.

For North Indian fans, the practical step is to check local listings before assuming a Hindi show is available at a major multiplex. Until Sun Pictures or the exhibitors confirm a settlement, the Hindi release could be thinner than expected.

As of 14 October, the makers had not confirmed the OTT partner or the digital premiere date. Treat the four-week window and the Amazon Prime Video association as reporting, not an announcement. If the window is renegotiated, the Hindi version could still widen; if not, its Hindi run may lean on single screens for the first stretch.
