Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 arrived as one of the biggest releases of 2026 and has already become the actor’s second-highest opener after Coolie. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the action-comedy sequel brings back the world of 2023’s Jailer and opened to strong fan response.
The cast is one of 2026’s widest assemblies: Rajinikanth returns with Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan, with cameos that have kept the conversations going.
Hindi day 2 starts on a softer note
On Friday morning, the Hindi version began with visibly lighter footfalls. According to trade figures cited by Filmibeat, morning occupancy in Hindi dropped about 45% compared with the opening day.
Until 1 pm on Thursday, Hindi had earned roughly ₹57 lakh; at the same point on Friday it stood at about ₹51 lakh. That is an early dip, not a finished result, and mass action-comedies often move later in the day.
Where the India total stands
The early trend points to a Hindi day-two collection of around ₹2 crore, which would take the Hindi version’s total to about ₹5.5 crore. By 1 pm, India-wide collections for the day had reached ₹8.9 crore: ₹6.41 crore from Tamil, ₹1.98 crore from Telugu and ₹0.51 crore from Hindi.
That lifted Jailer 2 to ₹68.6 crore nett and ₹80.75 crore gross in India so far. The Tamil version remains the engine; the Hindi release is a smaller but useful part of the sequel’s pan-India run.
- Hindi morning footfalls: down about 45% versus day one.
- Hindi till 1 pm: ₹51 lakh on Friday, compared with ₹57 lakh on Thursday.
- India total so far: ₹68.6 crore nett and ₹80.75 crore gross.
- Day two India figure by 1 pm: ₹8.9 crore across all languages.
Why a Friday morning dip is not the full picture
Opening-day audiences are typically front-loaded by fans who want the first show, especially for a Rajinikanth release. The first Friday is a working day in most circuits, so morning shows tend to settle. A 45% fall in footfalls sounds sharp, but the rupee gap at 1 pm was narrower, partly because ticket pricing and show mixes vary from circuit to circuit.
The Hindi version is the third-largest contributor here after Tamil and Telugu. Its role is to widen the film’s reach in North and Central India while the home market does the heavy lifting.
What happens next
Evening and night shows will decide whether the Hindi version crosses the projected ₹2 crore mark. If it does, a ₹5.5 crore Hindi total by Friday would keep the film on course for a bigger Saturday-Sunday push.
For fans, the weekend draw is clear: Rajinikanth back as Tiger, Vidya Balan sharing the screen with him for the first time, and a Hrithik Roshan cameo that reunites the two actors on screen after 40 years since Bhagwan Dada (1986). Those pulls matter more over Saturday and Sunday than in a Friday morning dip.
