8 Things You Did Not Know About Jailer 2

From a reported Shah Rukh Khan cameo decline to Hrithik Roshan's Tamil debut, here are eight facts about Jailer 2 you did not know.

Jailer 2

Jailer 2 (2026) puts Rajinikanth and director Nelson Dilipkumar back together after the first film’s success, and the sequel is currently trending as fans discuss the latest from the Hindi film industry. With Sun Pictures reaffirming the 15 October release date, the making of Jailer 2 is full of casting surprises, scheduling detours and small production details that even regular followers may have missed.

1. Shah Rukh Khan was reportedly approached, then said no

Shah Rukh Khan was reportedly approached for a cameo in Jailer 2, but declined due to his commitments to King. Later, Hrithik Roshan was confirmed for a special appearance. That makes the sequel a reunion with Rajinikanth after 40 years since Bhagwaan Dada (1986), and Hrithik Roshan’s Tamil cinema debut.

2. A character killed in Jailer is returning

Vinayakan confirmed in December 2025 that he would return despite his character, Varman, being killed in Jailer. The circumstances of his character’s return were not disclosed.

3. The sequel was still uncertain in early 2024

The sequel originated after Jailer’s success. Nelson had previously spoken about making sequels to some of his films, prompting speculation about a follow-up. By January 2024, Nelson had begun working on the script, and Mirnaa confirmed in February 2024 that the project was progressing toward production. In March, however, Nelson said he was uncertain Jailer 2 would be his immediate next project, meaning the sequel was still in development rather than formally greenlit at that stage.

4. The announcement teaser arrived before the film

Reports initially indicated production was intended to begin in late 2024, with a 2025 release considered in connection with Rajinikanth’s 50th year in cinema. The start was pushed back, and filming eventually commenced in March 2025. The filmmakers produced the announcement teaser before principal photography; it was shot at EVP Film City in Chennai and completed by 6 December 2024.

5. The core technical team largely reunited

The technical crew largely reunited from Jailer. Vijay Kartik Kannan returned as cinematographer, R. Nirmal as editor and D. R. K. Kiran as art director, while Anirudh returned to compose the music. Visual effects supervisor Yugandhar T. also joined the technical crew.

6. The stunt director was hired after Aavesham

Chethan D’Souza was hired as the stunt director after Nelson was impressed by his work in Aavesham (2024), which blended humor and action while keeping character traits intact. Sharing a similar approach to stunts, Nelson initially brought him on for the film’s first promotional video before attaching him as the film’s sole stunt director.

7. The schedule was built to roam across India

By late December 2024, Nelson had begun location scouting for the film. The production was officially taken into production on 10 March 2025, with Sun Pictures announcing that the shoot had begun in Chennai. The eventual schedule was designed around an extensive run across several parts of India rather than being confined to Chennai, with reported locations including Chennai, Attapadi, Coimbatore, Kozhikode, Mysore, Palakkad, Goa and Kochi.

8. Hrithik Roshan’s special appearance is a 40-year reunion

Hrithik Roshan was confirmed for a special appearance, making his reunion with Rajinikanth after 40 years since Bhagwaan Dada (1986), as well as his debut in Tamil cinema. The cast list also brings Mithun Chakraborty back with Rajinikanth after 30 years, since Rajinikanth’s sole Bengali film Bhagya Debata (1995), and gives Vidya Balan her full-fledged Tamil debut after a cameo in Nerkonda Paarvai (2019).
