The tenth edition of the Bollywood Music Project filled Mumbai’s Jio World Gardens on October 24 with a line-up that ran from Neeraj Shridhar and Roop Kumar Rathod to Anu Malik, Euphoria, Hariharan, Shilpa Rao and Himesh Reshammiya. Yet the talking point wasn’t only the music: two sets in one evening ended with the sound being pulled. Shilpa Rao’s performance had reportedly been cut short earlier, and Himesh Reshammiya’s closing set ended the same way — right after he joked that organisers could switch him off.
Still, the headliner gave the crowd a set to remember before that moment.
A setlist built for rowdy singalongs
Himesh opened with Tera Surroor and kept the hits coming: Viraaniya from Namastey London, Tanhaiyan, Naam Hai Tera and the title track of Tere Naam. His wife, Sonia Kapoor, then recited a poem on stage, and as Himesh performed Main Jahaan Rahoon he embraced her and kissed her on the forehead — a moment the audience met with a collective “Awwww”. Singer Pragati Nagpal stepped in for the female portions of the songs that followed.
- Sonia Kapoor’s poem and the forehead kiss became a standout fan moment
- Ayushmann Khurrana crashed the stage for Yeh Prem Mol Liya and called him “Lord Himesh”
- Himesh promised “no lip-sync or Auto-Tune”, then asked the crowd to choose his nasal style or “khatarnaak se”
- The finale included a longer Jhalak Dikhla Ja and a medley touching Aksar and Phir Hera Pheri
Ayushmann’s surprise brings the house down
Ayushmann told the crowd that he first watched Himesh live around the release of Vicky Donor in 2012, in Indore — or maybe Raipur, he laughed. This was his second Himesh concert, and he told the cheering fans the singalong energy was absolute madness. He declared, “Lord Himesh is with us!”, and added of Yeh Prem Mol Liya, “The tracks of the film are supremely hummable.”
Fans immediately demanded Pani Da Rang from Vicky Donor. Himesh joked that he had never sung it and asked whether he should try, before handing it back to Ayushmann and performing the Yeh Prem Mol Liya title song himself.
“I will perform until they don’t switch off my mic”
Closing the set, Himesh said he wanted to perform for 24 hours but organisers had given him limited time — a remark that drew loud boos. He added that he would perform, in his words, “until they don’t switch off my mic”.
With the event past its scheduled 10 pm close, organisers did exactly that and switched off his microphone. Himesh kept speaking into the dead mic for a moment, trying to reach the crowd, but his voice couldn’t carry.
What fans can do next
The mic switch-off landed after Shilpa Rao’s set had also reportedly been cut short earlier the same night, giving the finale an unexpected layer of drama. For fans, the evening still delivered: a rapid tour through two decades of Himesh’s hits, a sweet stage moment with Sonia Kapoor, and an Yeh Prem Mol Liya tease from Ayushmann. For the songs that didn’t fit, Himesh told the crowd they’d have to catch his Capmania Tour.
