Doosra Trailer Wins Anil Kapoor, Rohit Sharma Praise; Out Oct 23

Abhinay Deo's Doosra trailer, anchored in the 2002 NatWest Final, gets applause from Anil Kapoor and Rohit Sharma before its October 23 release.

Anil Kapoor and Rohit Sharma back Doosra trailer

The trailer for Abhinay Deo’s Doosra is out, and the film has a firm date: it opens in cinemas on October 23. The digital launch brings together a poster and trailer, and it has quickly drawn public praise from Anil Kapoor and Rohit Sharma.

A Lord’s memory, a girl’s awakening

At the centre of the trailer is India’s 2002 NatWest Final win over England, and the unforgettable image of Sourav Ganguly waving his shirt from the Lord’s balcony. Doosra takes that act of defiance in a new direction, using it as the spark for Tara’s story. She is a misfit in a conservative household who watches the Indian captain’s rebellion on television and finds the courage to speak truth to power in her own life, whatever the cost.

That structure makes the film more than a sports drama. It is a coming-of-age story where a very public cricketing memory becomes the doorway to a deeply private awakening.

Anil Kapoor and Rohit Sharma react

Anil Kapoor said he “loved the trailer” and praised the way Deo has blended two different worlds, reality and fiction, seamlessly. Kapoor also recalled the euphoria of the NatWest win, saying it gave an entire generation the belief that India could win anywhere, against anyone.

Rohit Sharma’s response was more personal. The India captain said he was 15 when the final was played, and that the film captures why the moment was “more than just winning a match.” He added that he is looking forward to watching the film.

Director Abhinay Deo described the film as an uplifting story about a country finding its voice and a young girl finding hers. He said it is India’s new freedom story—not the political freedom of 1947 but an emotional freedom. Deo added that Sourav’s shirt-wave was not just a cricket celebration; it was symbolic of shedding a colonial burden.

Producer Masha Sajdeh said the team is thrilled to bring the film to the big screen, and hopes audiences will be entertained, moved, and inspired to question long-held conventions.

For Bollywood fans, Doosra offers a fresh lens on a defining Indian cricket memory and a young protagonist’s search for her own voice. The trailer is live on digital platforms now, and the film arrives in cinemas on October 23.
