Diwali 2026: Ramayana Leads a Packed November 6 Race

Diwali 2026 brings Ramayana: Rise of Legend on November 5, then Moonwalk, Mookuthi Amman 2, Suriya's Scene and more on November 6. Here is the festive slate.

Ramayana leads Diwali 2026; Tamil releases pack November 6

Diwali 2026 is not built around a single big Bollywood superstar clash. Instead, the festival is opening up into a broad, multi-language moviegoing window. The big title arrives first: Ramayana: Rise of Legend lands on November 5. A day later, November 6 turns into a packed date for Tamil, Malayalam and English releases.

The season’s spectacle

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Rise of Legend is the centrepiece of the Diwali frame. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana and Sunny Deol plays Hanuman. A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer have jointly composed the music, which adds to the scale of the project. With a story built for a pan-Indian audience and a heavy visual-effects canvas, it is positioned as the festive season’s biggest draw.

November 6: a crowded day

The day after Ramayana is where the schedule gets genuinely crowded. Here is the slate to track:

  • Moonwalk (Tamil): Prabhu Deva stars as a young choreographer in this musical fantasy comedy, reuniting with A.R. Rahman, who also makes his acting debut and has sung the five-song soundtrack. Yogi Babu reportedly plays 16 different characters.
  • Mookuthi Amman 2 (Tamil): Nayanthara returns as the goddess in Sundar C’s reported Rs 100 crore mythological thriller, which also releases as Mahasakthi in Hindi and Telugu.
  • Scene (Tamil): Suriya plays DSP Inbaraj in Jithu Madhavan’s action-crime-comedy about an offbeat police team investigating a Bengaluru kidnapping.
  • Also on November 6: Vijay Antony’s father-daughter action drama Appa Kutty, Malayalam crime thriller Disco, and the English releases The Cat in the Hat and Wild Horse Nine.

Mookuthi Amman 2 stands out because it is not a simple repeat of the 2020 original. The sequel moves from religious satire into a larger mythological thriller across two timelines, with Nayanthara reportedly playing both the goddess and a modern-day police constable.

Why this Diwali is different

The notable gap is the absence of several major Hindi star vehicles bunched together. That leaves more breathing room for regional titles to find screens and audiences, even while Ramayana commands the festive conversation. For Hindi film fans, this is a rare window where a Tamil musical, a mythological sequel and a Suriya cop comedy are all part of the same Diwali plan.

The practical approach is to book the big film early, then choose the November 6 release by mood: Moonwalk for family-friendly dance and music, Mookuthi Amman 2 for a larger mythological thriller, Scene for offbeat action-comedy, and Disco for a grittier crime ride.

The real test will be whether the regional films can hold screens and momentum beyond the opening weekend while Ramayana is still running strong.
