Ajay Devgn has started shooting his next action drama, Chauhaan, in Kargil, returning to Ladakh for the first time since he filmed LOC: Kargil in 2003. The makers are targeting a theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
What the Kargil schedule means
The unit has secured the required permissions and is filming key scenes in the town, according to a Bollywood Hungama report carried by The Times of India. Low temperatures and the region’s landscape are expected to add an authentic texture to the action drama. The team has not disclosed the duration of the Ladakh schedule or the specific sequences being shot.
For Devgn fans, the location is the story. His last shoot in the region was for J.P. Dutta’s 2003 war drama LOC: Kargil, which recreated events from the Kargil War. Now, 23 years later, he is back in the same territory, this time for a new action film. The return connects an older war-film legacy to a fresh, dialogue-led actioner.
Who is behind Chauhaan
- Director: Neeraj Yadav
- Producers: Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L. Rai and Himanshu Sharma
- Banners: Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions
- Release target: October 1, 2027
The June teaser showed Devgn in an all-black look, set to the track Jumma Chumma De De, and ended with the dialogue, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai” — “Tell the Pathaans, Chauhaan is coming.” That line has become the film’s early calling card. No full plot or cast details have been announced so far.
After a record opening
The Kargil schedule follows the strong box-office run of Drishyam: The Conclusion. The film collected Rs 27 crore in advance bookings and opened at Rs 66.75 crore net in India, which the report calls the biggest opening of Devgn’s career and the third-best opening for a Hindi film. Provisional trade estimates put its India net total at Rs 245.50 crore after Thursday’s Rs 13 crore.
That context matters for the audience. Chauhaan is starting production while Devgn is coming off one of his biggest theatrical successes, and the teaser has already given the film a clear identity before the full cast or plot is out. A 2027 release is a patient window, but it also means the Kargil visuals and that teaser line will carry the film’s early buzz for some time.
