Adinath Kothare: Nayyi Navelli Is a Perfect Dussehra Release

Adinath Kothare says kids are loving Nayyi Navelli most, and the mythological fantasy thriller found the right family window during the Dussehra break.

Adinath Kothare: Nayyi Navelli is a perfect Dussehra release

Nayyi Navelli has given Adinath Kothare a festival-season moment, and the actor says it landed in exactly the right window. The mythological fantasy thriller, which pairs him opposite Yami Gautam, is now running in theatres nationwide through the Dussehra holiday.

Kothare told Hindustan Times that the early reaction has left him overwhelmed, and the most encouraging response is coming from children. For a title designed as a family watch, he sees that as a strong signal.

A family film finds its festive window

In the film he plays Raja Awasthi, who brings his newlywed wife Mohini into a large joint family in Meerut. Her arrival sets off an unexpected mythological battle. Directed by Balaji Mohan, the film leans into fantasy and spectacle, which tends to travel well with holiday family audiences.

The kids are loving it the most, and that is a great sign.

Festive releases live or fade on gathered families: children, parents and grandparents deciding together. Kothare’s point is simple but practical — a film built for that audience needs that audience to be available. Dussehra provides the release valve.

There is no box-office figure in the actor’s comments, and the early word is qualitative rather than numerical. But for a film that carries mythology, a joint family, and a newlywed couple, the yardstick is how quickly families recommend it to other families — and that is precisely the response Kothare is describing.

How the role came to him

The part arrived through a call from casting director Mukesh Chhabra while Kothare was shooting a television show he was also producing. Chhabra asked how busy he was; Kothare said he was free, far enough to hear a pitch he expected to be exciting.

After listening to the story and meeting the team, he was convinced. He described the part as a dream role and a delicious challenge for any actor. He then rearranged his dates with channel heads to make the film happen.

The role also extends a busy year for Kothare, who has worked in the industry since childhood and balances acting with directing and producing. Taking a Hindi lead opposite Yami Gautam is another step, not a debut.

Why the early response matters:

  • It gives Bollywood a festive mythological option while family viewing is at a peak.
  • Kothare returns as a lead opposite Yami Gautam just before a larger showcase.
  • Children’s word-of-mouth can extend a holiday title’s theatre run.

What comes next

Next month, Kothare will appear as Bharath in Ramayana, one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Nayyi Navelli therefore works as a lead-actor showcase before that spectacle arrives. If the family response holds through the festive week, the perfect release framing could turn into a longer theatrical stay — the exact outcome a Dussehra release is designed to chase.
