Bakaiti Season 2 is now streaming on ZEE5, and the conversation starts with a question that followed the first season everywhere: what makes Sanjay and Sushma so easy to recognise? In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat, actor Rajesh Tailang broke down the couple’s equation and what he hopes the new season carries forward.
The series returns to a Hindi streaming space where the loudest launches are often action and crime titles. A quick second season for a small, domestic story is therefore worth noting: it signals that the audience is watching for the characters, not just the premise.
A quick second season is the first signal
Tailang said Season 2 arriving within a year is rare. He sees it as a reflection of how strongly the audience took to Season 1. ZEE5 and the makers wanted to bring the next installment quickly, and the actor said the one question that kept coming back to him was when the next season would arrive.
The speed matters because it suggests the platform saw enough demand to act on it rather than wait. For a show built on small domestic moments, that is a strong signal.
The Sanjay-Sushma equation
Asked why the couple’s fights, teasing and love still stick together, Tailang pointed to one habit: they do not hold grudges. They may hurt each other in the heat of an argument, but they understand each other almost immediately, make up, and move on.
He added that the two have moved beyond the socially conditioned roles often assigned to a husband and wife. Those roles can be challenged and can change. That balance between everyday friction and a willingness to evolve is what he called the most beautiful part of the relationship.
- They fight and tease without holding grudges.
- They support each other through everyday problems.
- They question fixed husband-wife roles instead of playing them.
For fans, this is the central hook of Season 2. The show’s stakes are not about a heist or a conspiracy; they live in small arguments, quick reconciliations and the way a couple chooses to stay together.
Viewers saw themselves in the characters
Tailang believes Season 1 clicked because the characters reminded people of their own families, neighbours, uncles, parents, siblings and cousins. The situations were not larger-than-life or overly dramatic. They were a slice of everyday life, filled with people who could easily be living next door.
That familiarity let audiences laugh with the characters, feel for them, get angry with them, and sometimes feel sorry for them. For Season 2, the hope is to keep creating the same likeable, relatable world.
