Ramayana’s LA premiere set for Oct 27; release Nov 5

Dil Raju's on-stage name slip, a Los Angeles premiere date, and Yash's open-minded plea define Ramayana's Hyderabad event.

Dil Raju's name slip meets Ramayana's global stage

The Hyderabad leg of Ramayana‘s pre-release tour had the scale of the film itself — and a moment of pure stage-side warmth. The event, which followed a gathering in Bengaluru a few days earlier, brought together Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet Singh, Ravie Dubey, producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana distributor Dil Raju.

Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations is releasing the film in AP-Telangana, so his speech was part distributor’s pitch, part fan tribute. That is when the slip happened.

A corrected name, a hattrick hope

Addressing Ranbir, Dil Raju recalled that he had distributed two of the actor’s films in his circuit — Brahmastra (2022) and Animal (2023) — and said Ramayana would be the third. His hope was that it completes a hattrick of successes. Then, while reaching for a compliment, he named “Ranveer Singh garu” before catching himself. He laughed and apologised on the spot.

“Sorry, Ranbir Kapoor garu!”

The room appeared to receive it as a harmless on-stage blooper, not as a slight. It also sharpened the point he had just made: this is the third Ranbir Kapoor release he is backing in his market.

An Academy stage before the worldwide release

Beyond the slip, the event carried concrete release news. The makers announced that Ramayana will hold its grand premiere at the David Geffen Theatre of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on October 27. The worldwide theatrical release follows on November 5.

That puts the film on a globally recognisable stage before its Indian opening. For producer Namit Malhotra, the venue is more than a photo opportunity — it is a positioning statement for Indian cinema.

Yash’s request: watch the film, not the faults

Yash, who addressed the event later, turned the focus to how the film will be judged. He said Malhotra has made a gamble with his reputation, his money and everything at stake to put the film on a global platform. He asked audiences not to search for small faults in the VFX, adding that such an opportunity may never come again.

“Let’s watch Ramayana with an open mind.”

He also said that when it comes to criticism or correction, Malhotra has taken it in stride and tried to make the film better. It was a rare public request from a film team to judge the whole rather than the parts.

Three signals from Hyderabad

  • The AP-Telangana release is being framed as a continuity story: two Ranbir successes, now a third.
  • The October 27 Los Angeles premiere gives the film an international launchpad before the November 5 release.
  • Yash’s appeal reframes VFX scrutiny as a test of audience faith in ambitious Indian filmmaking.

For fans, the evening was a useful reset. The name slip was a reminder that even a blockbuster event runs on live, unscripted moments. The bigger message was about the film ahead: it is days from its global unveiling, and the team is asking audiences to walk in with an open mind.
