Golu Gupta returns
Shweta Tripathi is stepping back into Golu Gupta for Mirzapur The Movie, and she is clear that this is not a simple reprise. The actor has played the character across the Mirzapur universe for years, watching her move from a reserved, studious young woman into someone shaped by loss, power, survival and revenge.
Tripathi told Filmibeat that the role has become part of her own growth as a performer. “I have grown as an actor while playing her, too, so in many ways, we have grown together,” she said.
That shared history changes how she approaches the film. She is not trying to recreate an old version of Golu; she is returning to a person who has lived through more, and asking what those experiences have done to her.
What keeps the role alive
For Tripathi, there is no single Golu Gupta to reach for. Every choice leaves a mark, and each return to the character brings a different kind of intimacy. She says she now understands not just what Golu does, but what may be driving her even when it is not put into words.
- Golu began as a quiet character who believed in books and education.
- The story has reshaped her through loss, power, survival and revenge.
- Tripathi says she discovers something new in the character every time she returns.
“Golu has surprised me so many times,” Tripathi said, “and I would love to keep discovering those different sides of her.”
A character the audience owns too
Over time, Golu Gupta has become one of the most recognisable characters in the Mirzapur universe. Tripathi says she feels that connection closely, partly because she has invested so much of herself in bringing Golu to life.
That may be why the news matters beyond a familiar face in a new film. The audience has followed Golu from the beginning, so her return carries the weight of everything she has survived. Mirzapur The Movie gets to build on that accumulated feeling instead of introducing a stranger.
That is also a contrast to the way long-running characters are often handled: not as a static fan favourite, but as a person who keeps changing.
Not ready to say goodbye
Tripathi says she still feels there is much more to discover in Golu. Returning to her is not repetition, because the character is not static. “You are going back to a person who has lived through more experiences, and you have to understand what those experiences have done to her,” she explained.
That suggests Mirzapur The Movie will continue the character’s arc rather than simply replay familiar beats. For the actor, the door remains open: she is not ready to say goodbye to Golu Gupta. For fans, that leaves room for the film to add yet another layer to one of the Mirzapur world’s most followed journeys.
