The Friday OTT window is what the weekend box office used to be for appointment viewing. This week, the new arrivals range from a Mona Lisa heist to a radical eco-thriller, with two Indian titles in the mix for local audiences.
What is releasing
Masterplan is a heist comedy on Amazon Prime Video. Stanley Tucci plays Roger, a legendary thief planning an ambitious Mona Lisa job. He recruits an Italian hacker, played by Simona Tabasco, and a French explosives expert, played by Victor Belmondo. The plan changes when Roger reveals that the two strangers are long-lost siblings and he is their father, turning the heist into a family reunion.
Money Trap: The Karun Treasure is an eight-episode Turkish crime comedy on Netflix. Yılmaz Erdoğan returns as con artist Asım Noyan. A map linked to the legendary Treasure of Karun pushes him to reunite his old crew for one last job, with rival criminals and international hunters chasing the same prize.
Sacrifice on Lionsgate Play is a satirical eco-thriller set during a charity gala on a remote Greek island. Anya Taylor-Joy’s radical group holds wealthy guests captive, including Vincent Cassel’s billionaire host, Salma Hayek’s pop star and Chris Evans’s movie star. The group believes a human sacrifice may prevent a global extinction event.
Tenzing on Apple TV is a biographical drama directed by Jennifer Peedom. It looks at Tenzing Norgay’s relationship with the mountain, the colonial attitudes around the historic climb, and his fight to be seen as an equal. It features Genden Phuntsok, Tom Hiddleston, Willem Dafoe, Caitríona Balfe and Thinley Lhamo.
Indian titles to bookmark
DC on SonyLIV is a crime-driven interpretation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic Devdas. A robbery goes wrong and a police officer is killed, leaving Devadas as a fugitive. Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra, a sex worker who helps him navigate the criminal underworld. The platform lists an August 7 release date for the title.
Aasha on ZEE5 is a Malayalam psychological thriller. Urvashi plays a widow whose life begins to unravel after a minor car accident. A traffic dispute with Joju George’s volatile Jeemon escalates into a disturbing ordeal.
What this means for your weekend watchlist
The streaming platforms are programming like rival studios on the same Friday. That means more variety, but also more decisions for viewers. The smart move is not to watch everything on day one, but to match one title to your mood.
- If you want a dark Indian thriller, start with Aasha on ZEE5.
- If you want a familiar classic in a new genre, try DC on SonyLIV.
- If you want a starry global event, Sacrifice or Masterplan fits.
Check your subscriptions first: the Indian titles sit on SonyLIV and ZEE5, while the global titles sit on Prime Video, Netflix, Apple TV and Lionsgate Play.
