Chaar Yaar: 8-episode Prime Video crime drama gets Oct 23 date

Prime Video drops the Chaar Yaar trailer: an eight-episode Hindi Original about four friends in early-2000s Mumbai, premiering Oct 23, 2026.

Four friends, one wrong move, eight episodes

Prime Video has set a date for its next Hindi Original. The trailer for Chaar Yaar is out, and the eight-episode series will premiere exclusively on October 23, 2026. Directed by Vinay Waikul, it is a crime drama built around four friends in early-2000s Mumbai, and one decision that changes everything.

The first promo promises high-speed car chases, risky thefts and a friendship that is tested from the inside. Jay, Tony, Saahil and Sameer want more than their middle-class routine. When a desperate move goes wrong, they end up between the city’s gangsters and Inspector Sumati Bhalerao, who is closing in.

Who is in Chaar Yaar

The four friends are played by Purav Jha, Naman Jain, Saqib Ayub and Prayrak Mehta. Around them, the series has assembled a heavier bench of familiar faces:

  • Sai Tamhankar
  • Sikandar Kher
  • Dibyendu Bhattacharya
  • Rajesh Tailang
  • Chunky Panday
  • Bhagavathi Perumal

The story behind the chase

The hook is not simply crime. Written by Sambit Mishra and Saurabh Sawant, the series uses the heist plot to push four ordinary people into extraordinary danger. Produced by Pink Window Production Pvt. Ltd. and developed by BBC Studios India, it leans into the city as a character: early-2000s Mumbai gives the action a grainy, chaotic texture that a present-day setting would struggle to match.

What the cast says

The actors are selling different shades of the same story. Prayrak Mehta describes Jay as an intelligent planner whose greatest strength can turn into a weakness. Naman Jain says Sameer brings the humour when situations get tense, while Saqib Ayub points to the action and car chases as the show’s adrenaline. Purav Jha calls the series an important milestone in his career.

Director Vinay Waikul puts the emotional engine in simpler terms: the series is about how unpredictable life gets, and how ‘friendship becomes the only way out’ when circumstances spiral beyond control.

Why it matters for Hindi OTT

Chaar Yaar continues Prime Video’s investment in fast, locally rooted crime drama. The early-2000s setting separates it from the usual present-day streaming thriller, and the eight-episode length signals a tight binge rather than a long, padded season. For fans who grew up on Mumbai underworld stories, the show mixes nostalgia with new faces.

The trailer also balances the gangster threat with buddy-film humour, which could widen the audience beyond pure crime watchers. That tonal mix is the real bet here.

What to do before October 23

Watch the trailer with the sound on, because the action beats and the friendship beats are both part of the pitch. Then mark October 23 if you want a crime caper that does not take itself too seriously. Prime Video will carry the series exclusively.
