Anupam Kher voices Jatayu for Ramayana’s 5 Nov 2026 release

The Wings of Dharma poster confirms Anupam Kher as the voice of Jatayu in Nitesh Tiwari's two-part Ramayana, which opens worldwide on 5 November 2026.

Anupam Kher voices Jatayu in new Ramayana poster

The next character reveal from Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana puts a famous voice behind one of the epic’s bravest figures. Titled The Wings of Dharma, the new Jatayu poster confirms that Anupam Kher will lend his voice to the bird whose mid-air stand against Ravana remains one of the most moving acts of courage in the story.

A voice for the epic’s conscience

The poster gives Jatayu a close-up built on intensity, then widens to the bird in full flight. It is a deliberate double image: the determination before the fight and the scale of what he risks. Announcing the reveal, the makers wrote:

“When evil took flight, courage rose to meet it. He fought not for victory, but for what was right.”

Anupam Kher’s voice is the casting detail that matters. Jatayu’s screen time may be limited, but his role is crucial. His attempt to stop Ravana from taking Sita away gives the epic one of its first clear tests of dharma, and it tells the audience that courage is not measured by who wins.

That choice also fits the film’s larger pattern: placing established actors in roles where recognition and emotional shorthand do part of the work. Kher’s familiar, textured voice gives an otherworldly character a human weight before a word of dialogue is heard, which is especially useful for a figure whose impact rests on a single act of defiance.

The cast taking shape

This is the latest step in a character rollout that has been introducing the principal players one by one:

  • Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama
  • Sai Pallavi as Sita
  • Yash as Ravana
  • Sunny Deol as Hanuman
  • Ravi Dubey as Lakshman

Why the reveal matters

For a two-part adaptation of a story this widely known, the campaign is doing more than announcing names. Every poster doubles as a promise of tone. Jatayu’s reveal sells sacrifice rather than spectacle, and bringing in Anupam Kher adds a voice audiences associate with warmth and authority.

The reveal also keeps the campaign’s rhythm consistent. Each poster arrives with a title that names a value, not just a character, giving the rollout a clear, chapter-like structure. For fans, that means the months leading up to release are likely to remain steady with similar drops.

Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is planned as a two-part saga. Part 1 opens worldwide on 5 November 2026 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with IMAX shows also planned. Part 2 is being lined up for Diwali 2027.

A five-language, IMAX-ready release is a statement of scale. By dating Part 1 for 5 November 2026 and Part 2 for Diwali 2027, the producers are treating Ramayana as an event franchise rather than a single film. Sony Pictures will handle international distribution outside India, while Dharma Productions will distribute the film in the Hindi-speaking market.

For Hindi film fans, the pleasure of these reveals is in watchfulness: each drop adds a piece to an epic puzzle. With the release date now less than a year away, the Jatayu poster is a reminder that Ramayana is building its emotional beats as carefully as its visual scale.
