Mid-October brings one of the broadest release weeks of the season. Between October 14 and October 17, ten Hindi films and shows open in cinemas or arrive on streaming platforms, covering everything from a high-stakes biopic to a final-season talk show.
The split is clean: five titles are theatrical releases, while JioHotstar, SonyLIV and Zee5 share five streaming premieres. That matters for planning because the theatrical titles are weekend-specific, while most OTT titles stay available on demand.
In cinemas
Rajkummar Rao leads Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, directed by Avinash Arun. The October 16 biographical drama follows Ujjwal Nikam’s high-stakes battles in landmark cases, with Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher in the cast.
Also opening October 16, Yami Gautam stars in Nayyi Navelli, Balaji Mohan’s fantasy comedy drama about a picture-perfect new bride whose suspicious brother-in-law starts to believe she is a Daayan. The same day, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna headline Ranabaali, an epic period action drama set during the Madras Famine of 1876–1878.
On October 15, Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian in Jailer 2, with Vidya Balan, Mohanlal, Hrithik Roshan and Jackie Shroff in the wider cast. The next day, Vidyut Jammwal appears in Street Fighter, the 1993-set action adventure led by Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo.
On OTT
Koffee With Karan 9 premieres October 14 on JioHotstar, and the season is positioned as the ninth and final run of a show that has been on air since November 2004. Its guest line-up includes Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday, Kiara Advani, Sidharth Malhotra, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna.
JioHotstar also streams Kappi Squad on October 15, a Malayalam comedy drama about four friends who turn their bruised egos into a café startup, and Roadies Rebirth on October 16, with Rannvijay Singha, Nikhil Chinapa, Neha Dhupia and Bani J returning.
SonyLIV brings Indian Idol Legends Return on October 17, a reunion of the first Indian Idol season. Zee5 premieres Kon Yashwant Pansare? on October 16, a courtroom drama adapted from the Tamil web series Sattamum Needhiyum.
What to watch first
The practical takeaway is the urgency gap. If you care about opening-weekend atmosphere and early word of mouth, book the theatrical titles now. For OTT, the one exception is the Koffee With Karan finale, which is likely to dominate social conversation from its first episode.
