Jailer 2 Hindi release confirmed for Oct 15 despite OTT window row

Makers confirm Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 will hit Hindi theatres on October 15 as planned; Pen Marudhar to distribute in North India despite an OTT window row.

Jailer 2 Hindi release holds for Oct 15 as makers clear the air

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is keeping its Hindi date. After a week of reports that a streaming-window dispute could put the North India rollout in doubt, the makers have confirmed that the Hindi version will open on Thursday, October 15, 2026, alongside the film’s other language versions.

The clarification also locks in the distributor: Pen Marudhar Entertainment will handle the release across North India.

What the makers said

In a statement issued through the film’s PR team, the producers confirmed the Hindi version is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, “alongside its other language versions, as originally planned.” They added that there has been “no change to the scheduled Hindi theatrical release.”

The makers also asked media platforms to “refrain from circulating any unverified information” about the release.

Where the doubt came from

The question was never about whether the film was ready; it was about the window between cinemas and streaming. Reports said the makers were planning a digital premiere roughly four weeks after the theatrical debut. Major multiplex chains such as PVR INOX and Cinepolis, however, generally work with an eight-week gap for Hindi films before they move to OTT.

That gap is the heart of the story:

  • Reported plan: a four-week theatrical-to-OTT window for the Hindi version.
  • Multiplex norm: eight weeks between theatrical and digital for Hindi films.
  • The risk: a shorter window could mean fewer multiplex screens in the Hindi market.

Some reports have flagged that a smaller theatrical footprint could dent the film’s box-office performance in the Hindi-speaking market, which is why the multiplex side of this matters as much as the date itself.

The makers’ statement confirms the date, but it does not spell out how the multiplex programming question will be resolved. So the screen count is still the thing to watch before opening day.

Why the Hindi market is watching

The first Jailer was a notable 2023 success, and the sequel returns Rajinikanth as Muthuvel Pandian with director Nelson Dilipkumar and composer Anirudh Ravichander. Sun Pictures is producing, and the film is expected to feature appearances by Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar and Hrithik Roshan.

For Hindi audiences, the practical takeaway is simple: October 15 remains the date to plan around. If unauthorised screening changes start doing the rounds in your city, wait for the makers or the distributor to speak first—the clarification is clearly asking everyone to treat unverified reports with caution.
