Ganesh Acharya drops the trailer for his self-directed biopic, tracing his rise as a choreographer, with a December 11 theatrical release.

Ganesh Acharya's own story gets a December 11 release

Ganesh Acharya has taken the unusual step of turning the camera on himself. The choreographer-filmmaker has unveiled the trailer for Ganesh Dust To Stardust, a biographical drama he has written and directed about his own journey from a modest start to becoming one of Hindi cinema’s most successful dance directors. The film is set to open in theatres on 11 December.

What the trailer reveals

The trailer moves between dance and emotionally charged moments, tracing the personal and professional road Acharya travelled. It stars Shivanshu Soni, Alok Shaw, Sukanya Kalan and Sakshi Pawaskar. Acharya’s daughter Soundarya Acharya has produced the film under the V2S Production & Entertainment banner. The screenplay and dialogues are by Digangana Suryavanshi and Acharya.

Acharya frames the film around an idea he has repeated through his career: ambition alone is not enough. “Dreams don’t come true just by dreaming,” he said in a statement. For him, the story is about hard work, sacrifice and continuing to move forward when the path gets difficult. Soundarya said the film is about believing in a dream even when circumstances make it seem impossible, and called watching her father bring the vision to life “incredibly special”.

A career built on iconic songs

Hindi film fans already know Acharya’s work, even if they have not seen his face on screen. He has choreographed some of the most recognisable tracks in recent memory:

  • “Beedi Jalaile” from Omkara
  • “Chikni Chameli” from Agneepath
  • “Malhari” from Bajirao Mastani

He has also won National Film Awards for Best Choreography for “Hawan Kund” from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and “Gori Tu Lath Maar” from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Beyond dance, he has directed Swami and Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, and has acted in several projects.

Star support for the trailer

Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn added their reach to the launch by sharing the trailer. Kumar wrote that his first song as a choreographer was with him, and that watching Acharya’s growth makes him proud. The film’s team includes music and background score by Junaid Kumar, lyrics by Sameer Anjaan and Acharya, cinematography by Ajay Pandey, and editing by Rakesh Ram.

Why this matters now

A working choreographer directing his own screen biography is still rare in Hindi cinema. Most biopics focus on actors, athletes or public figures, but this film offers a backstage view of the craft behind the hits. It arrives while biographical storytelling remains a strong draw for audiences. The trailer is online now; the film reaches cinemas on 11 December.
