Only 2 Hindi Films Release This Week: Bokshi, Reporting Live

Bokshi, a Sikkim-set folk horror, hits cinemas Oct 9; Parineeti Chopra's investigative thriller Reporting Live streams same day on Netflix.

Only 2 Hindi Releases Land October 9

After the Drishyam: The Conclusion wave that opened October, the Hindi film calendar thins out in its second week. That does not mean the weekend is empty. Two new Hindi titles land on October 9, 2026 — one in theatres and one on Netflix — and they take viewers to completely different places: a Sikkim forest full of folk horror, and a sand-mining investigation that turns dangerous.

Bokshi: a theatrical folk horror set in Sikkim

Bokshi arrives in cinemas on October 9 as an indie folk horror-thriller directed by Bhargav Saikia. It follows Anahita, a traumatised teenager on a school field trip into the remote forests of Sikkim, where she confronts ancient witchcraft and her own destiny. The cast includes Prasanna Bisht, Mansi Multani, Dagi Ngomdir and Siddharth Shaw.

This is a chance for viewers to support a Hindi indie on the big screen. Folk horror rooted in a specific landscape gains from a theatre’s sound and scale, and Sikkim is not a backdrop Hindi cinema visits every week.

Reporting Live: Parineeti Chopra leads a Netflix thriller

Reporting Live premieres on Netflix the same day. Director Dhruv Tripathi‘s investigative thriller stars Parineeti Chopra, with Deven Bhojani, Amol Palekar, Adil Hussain and Shekhar Suman in the cast. The story follows an ambitious professional woman and her reluctant cameraman as they risk everything to expose a sand-mining empire, before finding themselves caught in its crosshairs.

Because it is streaming-first, there is no need to choose between this and a theatre trip. Subscribers can start it at home on October 9 while Bokshi plays for those who want the big-screen experience.

The week at a glance

  • Bokshi: folk horror-thriller, in cinemas, October 9, 2026; directed by Bhargav Saikia.
  • Reporting Live: investigative thriller, Netflix, October 9, 2026; directed by Dhruv Tripathi, starring Parineeti Chopra.

A lean release week after Drishyam’s opening gives both titles room to breathe. Theatrical-only audiences get a niche genre film to rally around, while Netflix gains a Hindi thriller that does not have to fight a crowded slate for attention. For Hindi film fans, October 9 is less about a box-office clash and more about choosing the kind of story you want: supernatural folklore or investigative danger.
