R Madhavan Returns to Horror with Vishal Furia

R Madhavan and director Vishal Furia are teaming for an untitled horror feature produced by Frostlit Production Limited. Here's what we know so far.

Madhavan and Vishal Furia Team for Untitled Horror

R Madhavan is returning to the genre that gave him one of his most enduring cult hits. The actor has signed an untitled horror feature with director Vishal Furia, best known for building the Chhorii universe and for the recent film Maa.

The film will be produced by Rohit Ranjan under his banner Frostlit Production Limited. The announcement, made on October 31, brings two of Indian horror’s most trusted names under one roof.

Why Madhavan matters in horror

Madhavan’s horror CV is short but weighty. 13B turned an everyday household television into a source of dread, and it has aged into a cult classic. Years later, Shaitaan gave him another chilling role and reminded audiences how well he can unsettle them. That makes his return to serious horror an event rather than just another casting announcement.

It also fits an actor who has moved across languages and moods. From Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein and Tanu Weds Manu to 3 Idiots, Vikram Vedha, Rocketry and the recent blockbuster Dhurandhar, Madhavan has built a career that rarely stays in one lane. Horror is one more register, and his track record there is unusually strong.

What Furia brings

Vishal Furia has spent close to a decade working on rooted, emotional horror. He started with the Marathi critical favourite Lapachhapi, expanded the Chhorii universe, and recently directed Maa, in which Madhavan appeared in a surprise cameo. That earlier collaboration now looks like a preview of this one.

Furia was unambiguous about his choice of lead. “Madhavan sir was always my first and only choice,” he told Filmibeat, adding that Madhavan is “the true OG horror star” of 13B. The director said the actor’s conviction, experience and understanding of serious horror are rare.

What the team is promising

No title, plot or release window has been revealed yet. But Furia offered a clear ambition for the tone:

“Together, we want to create something audiences have never seen before in Indian horror – the kind of fear they will feel in their bones!”

For fans, the practical takeaways are simple:

  • Treat this as early news: no release date or title has been announced.
  • Expect serious, atmospheric horror rather than cheap jump scares, given both filmmakers’ work.
  • Watch Frostlit Production Limited for casting and schedule updates.

The project also gives Furia a milestone. He completes a decade in the film industry in 2027, and this film is a big step forward in that journey. For Madhavan, it is a return to the kind of material that made 13B a lasting favourite, this time with a director whose horror instincts lean on unease rather than shocks.

Until more details arrive, the pairing alone is enough to put this on the radar of anyone who likes their fear psychological.
