Obsession’s $523.58M horror cut hits JioHotstar Oct 30

Obsession, the micro-budget horror that became a global box-office surprise, now has an easy home-viewing route for Indian fans. The uncut version begins streaming on JioHotstar’s Peacock Hub on October 30 at 7 PM, with viewers able to choose between English and a Hindi dub fronted by two familiar Bollywood voices.

The release

The film arrives on the Peacock Hub inside JioHotstar, timed for the Halloween weekend. It had already completed a theatrical run in India and was available through digital rentals; this window moves the uncut cut to a subscription platform.

The Hindi voices

Kriti Sanon voices Nikki, while Varun Dhawan lends his voice to Bear. They last shared the screen in the 2022 horror comedy Bhediya, and Amar Kaushik has brought this Hindi version together. Kriti said it was her first time voicing another actor’s performance, calling the story, in her words, “gripping, quirky and twisted.” Varun said dubbing helped him notice details he had missed the first time around.

The film, frame by frame

Directed by Curry Barker, Obsession follows Bear, played on screen by Michael Johnston. Desperate for Nikki’s love, he finds a mysterious object called the One Wish Willow and wishes for her affection. At first it works, then her love turns dangerously intense. Inde Navarrette appears as Nikki, with Cooper Tomlinson as Ian and Megan Lawless as Sarah Harper.

  • Bear: Michael Johnston on screen; Varun Dhawan in Hindi
  • Nikki: Inde Navarrette on screen; Kriti Sanon in Hindi
  • Ian: Cooper Tomlinson
  • Sarah Harper: Megan Lawless

Why the numbers stand out

The film is reported to have been made for just $750,000. Box Office Moji lists its worldwide collection at $523.58 million, making it a rare example of a small horror title returning at blockbuster scale. Blumhouse Productions, Tea Shop Productions and Capstone Studios produced the film.

Before you press play

This is the uncut horror version, with bold and scary scenes, so it is meant strictly for adults and is not a family pick. Fans can choose the original English or the Hindi dub, which makes the star performances the main event for many Bollywood followers.
