Mirzapur: The Movie is now streaming on Prime Video, and the OTT release is not a straight replay of the theatrical version. The home cut adds unseen footage, runs longer, and arrives after a theatrical run that made the film one of the year’s biggest Hindi hits. That release window is short enough to keep the conversation warm.
What the extended cut adds
The film is placed within the timeline of Mirzapur Season 1, but it explores an untold chapter. The fight for the throne pushes familiar characters beyond Purvanchal and into the desert. The theatrical version carried an A rating and ran 3 hours 17 minutes. On Prime Video, the extended version runs 3 hours 31 minutes and includes scenes that were never shown in cinemas.
Director Gurmmeet Singh said the idea was to take a world audiences know well and see how it “could unfold on a larger canvas,” while staying true to the grit and intensity that define the franchise.
A hit that began on streaming
After its September 2026 theatrical release, the film collected ₹339.84 crore worldwide, making it one of the biggest Hindi film successes of the year. That result is notable because the franchise first built its loyal following on streaming. A web-born title proved it could draw audiences to cinemas, and now it returns to OTT with extra material.
Producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar said taking the property to the big screen was a new experience for Excel Entertainment. They added that they hope the OTT arrival helps the Mirzapur universe reach even more people.
What fans get on Prime Video
- Longer cut: 3 hours 31 minutes on Prime Video, compared with 3 hours 17 minutes in cinemas.
- Unseen scenes: additional footage from the Mirzapur world that was left out of the theatrical release.
- A desert detour: the power struggle moves beyond Purvanchal for the first time.
- Returning cast: Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal and the wider ensemble return.
Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, the film is written by Puneet Krishna and directed by Gurmmeet Singh. Alongside Ali Fazal and Pankaj Tripathi, the cast includes Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Shweta Tripathi Sharma and others.
Why the longer cut matters
Devraj Sanyal, Managing Director of Universal Music India, wrote on Instagram that the extended cut is the version the makers watched before the film’s official release; what reached cinemas was a shorter cut. He described the longer version as “absolutely insane” and encouraged fans to host watch parties or simply watch it with friends and family.
For fans, the streaming premiere is a chance to complete the theatrical experience. It also shows how streaming-born franchises can move to cinemas, score a hit, and still return to their home audience with something extra.
