Katrina Kaif to postpartum trolls: Bounce back from where?

Katrina Kaif tells Vogue India she won't chase a post-baby 'bounce back' after weight-gain trolling at a September Ganesh Chaturthi appearance.

Katrina on postpartum trolls: 'Bounce back? From where?'

Katrina Kaif has responded to the commentary around her appearance after childbirth with a simple, steady refusal: she is not chasing a ‘bounce back.’ The actor, who has a one-year-old son Vihaan with husband Vicky Kaushal, discussed the attention she received after a September Ganesh Chaturthi appearance at the Ambani home — among her first public outings since becoming a mother.

‘I think most people are aware of what a woman’s body goes through after giving birth. And if they still choose to view that body through a harsh lens, it’s a personal choice,’ she told Vogue India. ‘I just want to focus on this lovely part of my life and where I’m headed.’

No ‘bounce back,’ just her own pace

The 43-year-old star pointed to the larger noise around postpartum bodies. ‘We live in a world that wants to blow us around in the ever-changing winds of opinions,’ Kaif said in one of her first comments since the controversy. A Pakistani RJ had apologised to her amid the trolling.

When asked about bouncing back to a perfect size, she replied: ‘Bounce back? From where?’ She added, ‘I have taken a step ahead to something that was a deep desire in my heart, so why would I want to go back?’

She said the first days after birth were an ‘indescribable feeling’ seeing Vihaan’s face, knowing a four-year journey for her and Vicky had led to that point. ‘I am very aware of my fitness journey and where my body feels at its most energetic. I will reach there at my own pace.’

A familiar standard, and a pushback

The conversation is not a new one in Hindi cinema. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, mother to 14-year-old Aaradhya, has faced similar scrutiny for years, including after a Cannes red carpet appearance this year. The latest trolling directed at Kaif has drawn support from industry voices who argue actresses are held to unrealistic body standards.

  • Madhuri Dixit has criticised the focus on actors’ bodies.
  • Salman Khan, Mrunal Thakur and Parineeti Chopra have also spoken out against body-shaming in the industry.

For fans, Kaif’s response shifts the story away from weight and toward what she calls a ‘lovely part’ of life. The larger point is that postpartum fitness is a personal timeline, not a public deadline.
