Fauzi teaser row: Chandra Kumar Bose writes to I&B minister

Chandra Kumar Bose has urged Ashwini Vaishnaw to withdraw the Fauzi teaser, correct it and investigate how the CBFC cleared it.

Bose wants Fauzi teaser pulled down and corrected

The teaser of Fauzi is now at the centre of a formal complaint. Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has written to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, asking for the promo to be pulled down, corrected and released again.

Bose shared a photograph of the letter on X and tagged the Prime Minister’s Office. The letter was written on behalf of The Open Platform for Netaji.

What the letter demands

The family’s objection is that the teaser trivialises Netaji and that the Central Board of Film Certification cleared content it should have questioned. Bose has asked the minister to order a thorough investigation.

  • Withdraw the Fauzi teaser immediately.
  • Correct the portrayal and release it again only after the concerns are resolved.
  • Order a thorough investigation into how the teaser was cleared.
  • Hold the responsible CBFC officials accountable, in his words, “in an exemplary manner”.

“It shall be the right service to the nation if you make sure that this teaser is pulled down and the responsible ones at the Censor Board are punished in an exemplary manner,” Bose wrote.

How the dispute started

Before writing to the ministry, Bose had sought an explanation from the makers. His latest post repeats that the teaser should be withdrawn and corrected. “Should our concern regarding Netaji be resolved (for the teaser as well as for the Movie), my best wishes go out for #Prabhas and the entire team,” he wrote.

That line matters for fans: Bose is not asking for the film to be shelved. He has left room for a corrected teaser and a film that addresses the family’s concerns, which keeps the focus on the portrayal rather than on the production itself.

Why this matters for Hindi cinema

The row is another test of how Indian films depict national icons. Period dramas and biopics often combine fact and drama, but when the central figure is someone like Netaji, the line between creative liberty and distortion is watched closely. The CBFC clearance is also now part of the conversation because Bose is asking how the teaser got through.

A demand for withdrawal is a serious step: it can delay a film’s promotional calendar, force edits and draw ministries into what otherwise would be a filmmaker’s creative call. That is why the next response from the makers, and from the I&B Ministry, will be closely followed.

Unlike a routine social-media objection, a letter to the I&B minister invites an official response. It also shifts the fight from opinion to process: who cleared the teaser, under what guidelines, and whether that review should be revisited.

Where things stand

The makers of Fauzi have not yet responded to Bose’s objections. No date for any correction or re-release has been announced. Fans of Prabhas and the film now wait on two fronts: the production’s answer and any ministry action on the letter.
