Godzilla Minus Zero India release likely pushed to November 20

PVR INOX Pictures confirms the film for India, but Ramayana's IMAX window may push it to November 20. Here's what fans should know.

Godzilla Minus Zero India release likely pushed to November 20

PVR INOX Pictures has finally given Indian fans the confirmation they were waiting for: Godzilla Minus Zero is coming to cinemas here. The distributor shared the film’s poster on October 27, its first official communication about the India release. The poster carries the line “Filmed for IMAX” and says the film will arrive “Only in theatres this November”, but it stops short of naming a date.

That date is now the subject of an IMAX-sized scheduling puzzle. Bollywood Hungama reports that the film is likely to be pushed from its earlier November 6 window to November 20, because Ramayana opens on November 5 and holds a two-week exclusivity window on IMAX screens in India.

Why the date moved

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Godzilla Minus Zero is a film made for IMAX. So is Ramayana.” Since Ramayana is a local release with IMAX exclusivity for two weeks, a day-and-date global opening for Godzilla Minus Zero would collide with that window. The film could still land on November 13, but November 20 currently looks more realistic, with an official announcement expected soon.

The pressure on premium screens does not end there. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is also scheduled for November 20 and is expected to play in IMAX, while Ramayana could still be running strong in its third week. Dividing IMAX shows among three titles in the third week of November could be genuinely difficult.

The premium-format squeeze

IMAX has become one of the most in-demand formats for event films in India, and distributors plan those screens well in advance. A two-week exclusivity for a big local title like Ramayana means an international IMAX release cannot simply slot into the same window unless it accepts a limited footprint. That is exactly what seems to be on the table: one daily show at most IMAX properties, with Ramayana retaining the rest.

What audiences should expect

  • Likely India date: November 20, with November 13 still under discussion.
  • IMAX availability: At most IMAX cinemas, Godzilla Minus Zero may get just one show a day.
  • Remaining screens: The rest of the premium shows are expected to stay with Ramayana.
  • The wild card: The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens the same day and also wants IMAX.

Why the poster matters

For almost two weeks, fans had been speculating about whether the film would even release in India. The distributor’s poster ended that doubt, even if it left the exact date open. The reaction has been relief, but the window squeeze means Indian IMAX audiences should not expect a wide premium run.

The practical takeaway is simple: wait for PVR INOX Pictures to confirm the date, then be ready to book the moment IMAX showtimes go live. If most locations get only one show a day, seats will disappear quickly.
