Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has become the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time at the worldwide box office, but its Hindi run had a predictably quiet second Monday.
Hindi version: day 12 at Rs 1.4 crore
After a strong second weekend, the Hindi dubbed version of Nelson Dilipkumar’s sequel collected Rs 1.4 crore on day 12, a drop of more than 55% from the previous day. That lifts the Hindi cume to Rs 39.95 crore after twelve days, according to Sacnilk figures cited by Filmibeat.
The number was the quietest second-Monday figure of the run so far, with all language versions slipping on the working day. Early estimates for day 13 point to a small recovery: the Hindi version is projected to add about Rs 2 crore and cross Rs 40 crore.
The comparison everyone is watching: Jailer 2 vs 2.0
In the Hindi market, Jailer 2 has already passed the lifetime Hindi total of Coolie and is now Rajinikanth’s second-highest grossing Tamil film there, behind 2.0. The gap to 2.0, though, is still substantial.
- Day 12 Hindi: Jailer 2 – Rs 1.4 crore; 2.0 – Rs 3.75 crore.
- Jailer 2 Hindi total after 12 days: Rs 39.95 crore.
- 2.0 Hindi lifetime: Rs 167.5 crore.
2.0 released in 2018 and enjoyed a far longer, larger Hindi run. The Wednesday and Thursday holds will show whether Jailer 2 can keep closing that distance or simply settle as a strong second.
Worldwide, a different story
The global picture is much bigger than the Hindi dip. On day 12, the film added Rs 2.5 crore overseas, taking its overseas total to Rs 255.5 crore. Its combined worldwide collection now stands at Rs 733.35 crore, making it the highest-grossing Tamil film ever.
That milestone is built on a large returning ensemble — Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik — strengthened by S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan and cameos from Hrithik Roshan, Jackie Shroff and Vijay Sethupathi. What began as a Tamil sequel became an all-language event, and the Hindi version is still a useful growth engine.
For fans tracking the daily swings, the action step is straightforward: catch the film in cinemas this week. A steady Tuesday and Wednesday can push the Hindi total further past Rs 40 crore and keep the post-weekend momentum alive while the worldwide record continues to settle.
