The makers of Dharman have made Nayanthara’s casting official. She joins Rajinikanth in a special role, and the announcement poster deliberately keeps her look in shadow.
The production house shared a silhouette image of Rajinikanth and Nayanthara on Instagram and wrote,
“THE AURA IS DOUBLE. Welcoming the one and only @nayanthara to DHARMAN.”
That one line turned the reveal into a clean event announcement: the film now has two major stars attached, but only one is visible for now.
A reveal that began with a pair of eyes
Before the Nayanthara announcement, the team had already teased a new cast member with an image of a camera capturing a pair of eyes. The caption promised that “THE CHARISMA ARRIVES” and asked audiences to watch out. The mystery has now resolved into Nayanthara’s special appearance.
The film is written and directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, whose previous directorials include Oh My Kadavule and Dragon. Rajinikanth has the title role, with Simran, Raashii Khanna, Ram Pothineni and Yogi Babu in the ensemble. The makers have not yet shared details about Nayanthara’s character or the film’s storyline.

Why this casting matters
Nayanthara’s entry matters because a special appearance by another star of her reach can widen the conversation around a film ahead of its release. Paired with Rajinikanth, it gives Dharman a second strong audience hook in the crowded festive window, before a frame of her performance is out.
The film is positioned as a high-energy action drama with a contemporary tone. The team says Rajinikanth will be seen in a lively, youthful avatar as his character navigates interpersonal conflicts and moral dilemmas.
A January Pongal release also gives the film a holiday runway. With Anirudh Ravichander on the soundtrack and Red Giant Movies handling distribution, Dharman is being built like a proper festival release rather than a quiet one.
For Hindi cinema fans, this is the kind of event film that increasingly crosses over. Rajinikanth’s films already travel far beyond Tamil Nadu, and adding Nayanthara makes the cast recognisable to a much wider audience.
What comes next
The promotional plan is clearly running on reveals. After a pair of eyes and two silhouettes, the likely next steps are a full look at Nayanthara, then plot and music drops as the release date nears.
For now, Dharman has told us just enough: it is assembling a big-screen event and keeping its biggest visual surprises in reserve.
