A friend’s call before the date war began
For a few days it looked like Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana 2 were heading for a direct Diwali 2027 collision. Vanga had announced that his action thriller with Prabhas would open over the Diwali 2027 weekend, the same frame already associated with the second part of Kapoor’s mythological epic.
Bollywood Hungama’s report reframes that clash. According to its sources, Kapoor knew Ramayana 2 could move. When the delay was confirmed to him, he immediately called Vanga and shared the information before the rest of the industry reacted.
“The minute Vanga got the news of the delay, he made a quick decision to arrive on Diwali 2027 before anyone else took the date,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The report makes the friendship the story: a private conversation between two filmmakers quietly shaped a public release calendar.
Why Diwali 2027 matters
Diwali is one of the biggest theatrical windows for Hindi and pan-Indian cinema. A clash between two films of this scale would have forced exhibitors to divide premium screens and audiences to choose between two event films. The early tip allowed Vanga to lock the date before a competitor could take it.
Producer Bhushan Kumar was in agreement, the report says, and Vanga and Kumar announced the slot quickly. Ramayana 2’s new date has not yet been made official.
- Spirit holds the Diwali 2027 weekend.
- Ramayana 2 is shifting, with a new date expected soon.
- The announcement is likely to arrive around the first Ramayana film’s post-credit sequence.
What to watch next
For fans, the release calendar is now clearer: Prabhas and Vanga’s Spirit is the Diwali 2027 tentpole. The next update to track is the Ramayana 2 date, which the report says is likely to be revealed when the first part of Ramayana opens over Diwali, possibly in a post-credit moment.
Nobody has confirmed the new Ramayana 2 slot yet, so any date doing the rounds should be treated as speculation until the makers announce it. The episode is also a reminder that the release calendar is not always decided in boardrooms; sometimes it turns on a private phone call, a shared piece of information and a producer ready to move quickly.
