Ramayana Part 1 has made Mumbai’s ticket window the story before the first show. As advance booking opened, the Nitesh Tiwari-directed epic listed evening seats at ₹3,170 for PVR ICON 3D IMAX at Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel, according to BookMyShow — a figure reported as the highest for a Bollywood film in the city.
City by city, premium formats are setting the pace
Delhi’s top PVR recliner for 3D and IMAX 3D is around ₹2,400, with Cinepolis and INOX close behind at roughly ₹2,150 and ₹2,200. Bengaluru is lower for the Hindi version at ₹1,520, while the Kannada version reaches ₹2,050.
Mumbai remains the outlier. Cinepolis tops out around ₹1,980, INOX around ₹2,200, and PVR night shows climb to ₹2,770. The most expensive seat in the report is the ₹3,170 evening IMAX slot in Lower Parel.
- Delhi: ₹2,400 (PVR), ₹2,150 (Cinepolis), ₹2,200 (INOX)
- Bengaluru: ₹1,520 (Hindi), ₹2,050 (Kannada)
- Mumbai: ₹1,980 (Cinepolis), ₹2,200 (INOX), ₹2,770 (PVR night), ₹3,170 (PVR ICON 3D IMAX evening)
The demand that is backing the price spike
The pricing spike is not happening in a vacuum. The film has already collected ₹8.28 crore in India presales and $1.42 million overseas, according to the report.
The film itself is an event by design. It is a two-part retelling of Valmiki’s Ramayana, marking Nitesh Tiwari’s return to direction after about three years and Ranbir Kapoor’s first release after the success of Animal. It also pairs him with Yash and Sai Pallavi for the first time.
Why this matters for film fans
Premium pricing has become a real lever for Hindi cinema’s biggest releases, but a ₹3,170 ticket resets expectations. It signals that exhibitors are treating the film as a once-in-a-year theatrical spectacle and are confident fans will pay for IMAX and recliner experiences.
For the audience, the decision is no longer simply “watch or don’t watch” — it is now a format budget. A standard-screen booking can bring the same film at a fraction of the premium high, and the real test will be whether those standard shows fill quickly, not just the high-value IMAX seats.
What to do before booking
- Compare PVR, INOX and Cinepolis versions in your city before paying peak rates.
- Check language options; in Bengaluru, the Hindi version is cheaper than the Kannada version.
- Book early for standard formats to avoid being nudged into premium seats as shows fill.
